Is God good role model regardless of his existence?

Is the god of the bible a good role model? He has a really big kill count in the bible and those people in that count include children, babies. Jack Bauer has a smaller kill count. How do people justify worshiping such a mass murderer? Especially with his "believe in me or I'll hurt you" attitude?
