Is it better to ride a horse with tennis shoes or cowboy boots?

I just got a horse and I have been riding with just tennis shoes. I seen that Ariat fatbaby boots are on sale now, and I was just wondering should I get myself a pair to ride in. If those boots aren't for riding horses, what is the best boots to ride horses with? I ride western pleasure/trail. Thank you
