Can you take whey protein isolate if your trying to lose weight?

I want to gain muscle mass but I want to burn fat at the same time as well. right now I'm just doing toning exercises like reps of 15 and 3 sets. And I'm running. Will the protein isolate make me fatter because I'm not building mass yet or will I have a better chance of becoming toned.
