What do you think of the hiliason treeless trail and barrel racing saddles.?

I have a fat mutton withered mare who is so hard to find a saddle for. I am ready to give up. The only saddle maker I know JJ Maxwell (he's related by marriage) thinks they are good for nothing and to just throw them in the trash. What do you think? Also do they need a special kind of pad? Thanks.
